Acute Care and Emergency Certification Courses

PALS Instructor

This course is designed for individuals wishing to become PALS instructors. Students must have current AHA PALS provider status, have superior knowledge of PALS guidelines and care, must become aligned with an AHA Training Center, must have an instructor recommendation from a Regional Faculty, Training Center Faculty, or the course coordinator/lead instructor from their last PALS provider class. Preregistration deadline is March 1, 2021. Pre-course paperwork will be sent to registered participants.

Students are required to have their own Instructor Package (Instructor Manual, Provider Manual & Course Video) for individual use. Students are responsible for obtaining their own corresponding Instructor Package prior to class. This can be purchased from a third party of choice.

The following will be awarded with 100% attendance:

  • 7 Contact Hours approved by Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #12
  • 3 CEH’s for all levels of EMS by Provider # 1500, EMS Sponsor # 20-1500-300 (3 Cardiac)

ACLS/PALS Instructor Renewal

This time is designed to provide both ACLS and/or PALS instructors an opportunity to complete monitoring requirements for instructor renewal. Although it is encouraged that instructors contact a Training Center Faculty to be monitored teaching an actual class, instructors who have been unable to do so may come and be monitored teaching a mock class at this session. (Course tuition does not include applicable card fees.)

AHA Blended Learning Courses & Hands on Assessments

The American Heart Association offers various courses in a Blended Learning format. These blended learning courses require completion of AHA’s online curriculum followed by successful completion of a hands on assessment with a certified AHA Instructor. Students are expected to come to their hands on assessment prepared; remediation time is not included. Students who are not able to successfully pass the skills assessment will be required to retake their course or find remediation on their own and pay a second appointment fee to complete another hands on assessment at a later date. Hands on assessments are scheduled in a one-on-one format and must be scheduled a minimum of 2 weeks in advance. OT - PT Massage Therapy

The “Topics in Rehab” series of classes will focus on continuing education topics specifically of interest for professionals in the rehab professions. Each month will bring a new topic and a new speaker. Classes will be held on the Ottumwa Campus in the Rural Health Education Center, Room 108. Credit: 3 contact hours for PT, PTA, OT, OTA.

Physical Therapy in Parkinson’s: Where to Start and Where to Go

This class will focus on impairment-based physical therapy interventions for Parkinson’s. We will start by discussing the most valuable objective measures to identify impairment. This will include looking for subtle impairments and how they may be more pronounced with the addition of dual tasks. Patient case examples will then be presented to discuss outlining your treatment approach. Demonstration and video examples of treatment ideas will be included.

Dental Continuing Education

Indian Hills is happy to announce the initiation dental continuing education courses for dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants.  Classes will be offered face-to-face on the IHCC campus or may be accessed live via webinar or taken after the fact as a prerecorded self-study versions of courses.  The self-study versions of courses will be available for 1 year after the course was initially held.  Students registering for the webinar version of the class will receive instructions the Monday before class on how to join as well as a required post-test, which must be completed and submitted within 2 weeks after class.  Students will need a minimum score on the post-test to receive course credit.

Self study students-once registered for the self study version of the class, participants will receive course materials within a few days and will have approximately 2 weeks to complete the course and submit course completion.

Trauma Nurse Core Course

Prepare the nurse with the knowledge, critical thinking skills and hands-on training needed to provide high quality, trauma nursing care. After completing this course, participants will be able to properly assess and implement evidence-based interventions to improve outcomes for patients.

The Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is a one and a half day course developed by the Emergency Nurses Association to present a firm foundation in trauma nursing and to provide nurses with core or basic trauma cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills that are associated with the delivery of professional nursing care to the trauma patient.

Verification of successful course completion is based on passing the written exam and the Trauma Nursing Process (TNP) psychomotor skills station. Verification is valid for four years.
