Where are clinicals held?
Clinicals are held in our community college district with the exception of the 4-week
mental health rotation in the second year of the program. Students are assigned based
on several factors. We try to be aware of where students live when making clinical
assignments, but you can anticipate drive times of 30-90 minutes at times – and even
more during certain rotations such as the Kirksville, MO (mental health) rotation.
Clinic assignments are based on where a student lives, what other clinic experiences
they have had already, and the demographics of the particular cohort the student is
in. If the majority of students in that cohort live in Ottumwa, then we have to send
a certain number of them out to other areas. If the students in that cohort live at
different places in the district, then more of them may be assigned to clinical sites
nearer their home.
