What do I need to do to get accepted to the program?
Fill out an application either online or on paper and submit your high school transcripts,
plus any college transcripts you may have. You also need to have a score of at least
16 on the ACT and hold a 2.5 GPA. You must also test with the following scores from
Accuplacer: Sentence skills: 64; Reading: 80; Arithmetic: 60, total score of 780.
Are there any courses I can take now to prepare?
Yes, you can take Medical Terminology and Human Anatomy with lecture and lab. You
could also take Interpersonal Communication and CSC105 Computer Essentials. These
courses are built into the curriculum but can be taken outside of your acceptance
to the Dental Assisting program.
What’s the clinical portion of the program like?
You will be placed in a private dental practice somewhere within a 50-75 mile radius
of the Ottumwa campus, sometimes farther away. This is part of the third and fourth
terms. Clinical is two days a week and the other two days you will be back on the
Ottumwa campus for classes. You must have reliable transportation for your clinical
rotation.
